where my journey begins

Early on, I learned by making “master copies”—a centuries-old way artists build skills by closely recreating earlier works to absorb composition, color, and handling.

The photo here is my first go—an oil study after Picasso (Jacqueline). I went on to copy Van Gogh, Matisse, Sargent, and others—each one taught me something different.
