Bio

Ian Husting is a Washington, D.C.–based artist working across painting, sculpture, drawing, and illuminated mixed media. His work combines wood, plaster, paint, hand-drawn imagery, and embedded light to create sculptural objects that explore grief, memory, displacement, and regeneration. Largely self-taught, Ian developed his formal drawing and painting skills outside of the academy, benefiting from atelier programs, public libraries, and local nonprofit arts organizations.

His path into art has unfolded alongside a career in nonprofit work and community organizing—experiences that inform his interest in resilience, collective care, and rebuilding.

In 2025, Ian began exhibiting publicly, including selection for the juried group exhibition CONFAB at the Washington Studio School. His first solo exhibition, Afterlight, is forthcoming at McLean Project for the Arts in McLean, Virginia, in September 2026.
